    Exclamation World Chat ToS

    ToS World Chat

By using the in-game chat system you are agreeing to follow the rules listed below. These rules are in place to protect other players and yourself from varying forms of abuse and to keep the chat civil and welcoming to all players and age ranges.

"Spamming: please do not spam the chat with pointless text, guild invites or raid codes (trains are fine, unless repeatedly posted). Please keep the posts to a reasonable amount.
Spam is defined as the following: Identical links more than once per chat page. The same text three or more times in succession. Hitting enter after every word."

Harassment: Harassment in any form is not tolerated. Please be considerate to other players with different religions, sex, nationalities, languages, races, preferences, and other forms of beliefs and opinions.

Personal Attacks: Any verbal attacks, flaming, hate, or harassment directed at a person, group, guild, or organization is considered Harassment (see above).

Solicitation and sexual conversation: This is a family friendly game; please do not engage in adult conversation or pursue a relationship with another player in the chat.

Personal information: We advise against giving out your personal information, such as Facebook or Instant Messenger details. Do not harass another player to get this information.

Language: Please do not swear or use any word that can be considered offensive; be kind and civil to other players at all times. Although we encourage players from every culture, we cannot moderate the use of non-English languages, and often unintentional offense is caused when comments are ‘lost in translation,’ therefore English is preferred but not mandatory.

The chat player moderators (“Chat mods”, noted by their Orange color) are unpaid volunteers chosen from the regular player base. They have authority over chat under supervision of and within the rules set forth by the developers (noted by the *DEV* tag and their red color).

A violation of the rules listed above will result in a written warning. If the behavior continues, you can and will be chat banned for a temporary amount of time (by a Chat Mod or a *Dev*). If the infraction is severe enough, you may be permanently muted or banned from the game (by a *Dev*).

Exceptions: Any blatent use of the F-Bomb will result 1 hour chat ban without warning; any use of abbreviations (ie: f'ing, eff, effing, etc) will receive 1 warning, then the usual 1 hour chat ban if continued. Using replacement words such as Fark or Frack will not be warned or chat banned. You will receive an instant chat ban for extreme spamming or vulgarity, sharing pornographic links, discussions of rape, murder, molestation, or making death threats.

If you see players or moderators that you feel are breaking these rules, misbehaving, or abusing their positions please send in screenshots of the behavior in a private message to a Dev (Logann) using the Dawn of the Dragons forums.

I would like a clarification. There are players who have been warned almost daily but continue to violate the ToS with what seems to be a "fresh start" every day. If a player is known to a mod as a serial violator (with daily warnings) does this player require additional warnings or can they be chat banned immediately?
If you want to "ignore" someone on the forum just click their name, click profile, and beneath their avatar you'll see an ignore link. Comes in really handy at times when you don't want to deal with that certain someone's constant negativity.

Sooo... Can I talk about "fracking"? I am assuming it would be the context but "I can hear them fracking loudly next door." has two different meanings. One is a method used to extract oil and the other is the banned version.

I know my example could be phrased differently to make it sound more like fracking (extracting oil) than fracking (naughty neighbors making their 6th kid they can't pay for). But I don't want a mod to actually ban someone giving a legitimate discussion over this since I know for a fact in my area, fracking is becoming more common and everywhere. I need to stop because I am having a hard time making a sentence sound only for the one meaning.

You say they will ban for using the "F-bomb", but does that mean filter-dodging to say something or saying the actual word and having it filtered as "****"?

So long as the filter does its job, it should be okay. Granted some punctuation, such as !, may make it count as a filter dodge.

You are allowed to use your native language. I hope all users are thoughtful with this. Ive already installed the google translate onto my webpages and hope all users remember to keep the conversations within the very few rules there are no matter the language you use.

Sui fracking is ok. I will not be giving any any warnings and never have actually for freaking, farking, frick, frigging, fracking, etc. It has always been my stance that when folks use those words they are absolutely respecting 5PG's rules about not saying the FBomb. It is a thoughtful decision to use a different word and should not be punished. The new rules are embracing that view. I argued pretty strongly for this and am delighted to see our rules changing. An FBomb is an FBomb. You know it when you see it. The phonetic equivalent of "eff" will remain considered the F bomb. If a player quite literally says Eff You, I will have to warn under our current rules.

Miztickow - If the filter catches it I never warn or mute. Players can freely talk and just allow the filters to do its job. If the filter misses a word and it probably should not be an ok word then I just give it to Logann later to be added to the filter list. If the topic becomes too much of an adult topic, then a chat mod may ask the users to cool down the topic a little bit to be respectful of the rule above to not engage in adult conversation. The goal is to be minimally present as a mod, not overly bearing. We're working hard to change these rules and give the players more freedom.

Otherwise there are now dozens more ways to express yourselves that in the past were not ok.

As one of my fellow mods often says - I am not the thought police. There should be as many ways to express yourself as possible. Our respectful request is just to honor the very small number of rules there are left

In all seriousness, could we please have a separate tab for JUST RAIDS.
As in, any raid shared goes to one area and any players talking appears in another tab.

Half the things said in chat are offensive and we all know it. I'd like to be able to play the game peacefully w/o having to mute people (Cause then I miss out on the actual game mechanics (joining raids))

too bad most people will see only "english is not mandatory" but will forgot about "english is preferred"

When two people speak in their own language on public world chat where majority speaks english, lets say it straight, their langauge is just plain, unwanted spam.

Its one thing when someone occasionally post something in his own language because he have "XYZ nationality" only guild.
But ive seen on several occasion when people started talking in non-english language ON PURPOSE, just to ANNOY other people because "English is not mandatory" and they can.

Exactly. On WS and NG, etc, I kind of get it, but still think they should attempt to join a guild that speaks their language and talk in guild chat, if they want to speak in their native language for an extended period of time. On Kong, there are a bunch of sparsely populated chat rooms, and people can easily relocate there instead.

kind of wonder just what the form this "written" warning actually is meant to take. is very possible for someone to have missed a comment in the chat box if that is the only place the warning would be seen.

or there something in place now to actually ensure that the player gets the warning when it given, and some explanation of the reason for it?

Yes. This is a change and moderators have been just as vocal as others in asking for it.

Yes and it's a change for the worse in my opinion. Just like DargDrei said (can't believe i'm agreeing with them for once =P )
There are certain people who'll do it simply to spam now and there's nothing that can be done (other than muting them, which then again leads to missing out on raids - which is an integral part of the game)

There's also no way to regulate it (I can start using Chinese/German f-bombs now???) cause words are obviously not the same as in english so 'no one' will recognize it.

I feel like this updated ToS is beyond broken (for example: STFU SHOULD be banned like it was before Logann took over, it's not only an insult but has the f-word in it and can only be used in a derogatory way)

This updated list makes me want to avoid WC altogether now. IF it wasn't for raids being posted, i would never use it anyways.

since I never got offended by these words, but rather took them as a term of endearment I might not be the right person to say this, but wouldn't it be more consistent to ban all versions of the f-bomb as every one understands these words to be the f-bomb....

Yup. I thing wtf/wth shouldn't be banned. mainly because they're used when someones frustrated. STFU is usually used in a rude manner.

And dont get me started on the foreign languages

to add to my above post, I have to say I find this rather more offending than the F-Bomb as this implies me to be stupid not to know what is actually said...
